What is Science?
Science is the systematic study of the structure and behavior of the physical and natural world through observation, experimentation, and the testing of theories against evidence. The branches of science are commonly divided into three major groups: formal sciences which study formal systems such as logic and mathematics, natural sciences which study natural phenomena including physical and life sciences, and social sciences which study human behavior in social and cultural aspects.
Natural science encompasses the study of natural phenomena including cosmological, geological, physical, chemical, and biological factors of the universe. It can be divided into two main branches: physical science which includes physics, chemistry, astronomy, and Earth science, and life science which encompasses biology and its various subdisciplines. Physical science studies non-living systems while life science focuses on living organisms, their structure, function, growth, evolution, and relationships with the environment.
In India, science education is offered through Bachelor of Science programs spanning three years for general degrees and four years for honors degrees. Universities and colleges affiliated with state and central universities offer diverse specializations in pure sciences, applied sciences, interdisciplinary sciences, and emerging fields. Science graduates pursue careers in research institutions, pharmaceutical companies, biotechnology firms, IT companies, educational institutions, government laboratories, and various industries requiring scientific knowledge and analytical skills.
