What is Management?
Management is the administration of organizations, whether businesses, nonprofit organizations, or government bodies through business administration, nonprofit management, or the political science sub-field of public administration. It is the process of managing the resources of businesses, governments, and other organizations to achieve strategic goals and objectives.
Management operates through five basic functions as defined by Henri Fayol: planning, organizing, commanding, coordinating, and controlling. Larger organizations generally have three hierarchical levels of managers organized in a pyramid structure including senior management, middle management, and line management. Senior management roles include the board of directors and chief executive officer who set strategic goals and policy of the organization.

Admission Process
For MBA Programs
Admission to MBA programs in India primarily occurs through entrance examinations. CAT (Common Admission Test) conducted by IIMs serves as the primary gateway for admission to IIMs, IITs, FMS, and numerous other top business schools. The CAT exam evaluates candidates on quantitative ability, verbal ability, data interpretation, and logical reasoning through a computer-based test format.
Other major entrance tests include XAT conducted by XLRI for admission to XLRI and associate institutes, CMAT conducted by NTA for AICTE-approved business schools, MAT conducted by AIMA accepted by numerous private business schools, SNAP for Symbiosis institutes, NMAT for NMIMS and partner institutions, and IIFT exam for Indian Institute of Foreign Trade.
The admission process typically involves three stages. First, candidates must qualify the entrance examination by achieving the minimum percentile cutoff specified by institutes. Second, shortlisted candidates participate in Written Ability Test or Group Discussion rounds to evaluate communication and analytical skills. Finally, candidates face Personal Interview rounds where panelists assess academic background, work experience, career goals, and overall personality fit.
For Executive MBA Programs
Executive MBA programs target working professionals with significant work experience, typically ranging from 5 to 15 years. Admission requirements often include GMAT scores for international programs, CAT scores for domestic programs, and comprehensive evaluation of professional achievements, leadership potential, and career progression. Many executive programs follow flexible weekend or modular formats to accommodate working professionals.
Eligibility Criteria
Candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized university with minimum 50 percent aggregate marks. Reserved category candidates may receive relaxation of 5 percent on the minimum percentage requirement. Final year undergraduate students are eligible to apply for most entrance exams, subject to completion of their degree before the program commencement date.
