Admission Process
For Diploma in Pharmacy (D.Pharm)
Admission to D.Pharm programs requires candidates to have completed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics or Biology with minimum 50 percent aggregate marks. Some states conduct entrance examinations for D.Pharm admissions, while many institutions offer direct admission based on merit in qualifying examinations. The duration of the program is 2 years divided into four semesters.
For Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm)
B.Pharm admission primarily occurs through entrance examinations conducted at national and state levels. Major entrance exams include various state pharmacy entrance tests and university-specific examinations. Candidates must have completed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics or Biology with minimum 50 percent aggregate marks. Some institutions accept NEET scores for B.Pharm admissions. The program duration is 4 years divided into eight semesters.
Direct admission to the second year of B.Pharm is available for D.Pharm holders through lateral entry schemes. These candidates must have completed D.Pharm with minimum 50 percent marks and qualified in relevant lateral entry examinations conducted by state authorities or universities.
For Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D)
Pharm.D admission requires candidates to have completed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology with minimum 50 percent aggregate marks. The program emphasizes clinical pharmacy practice and patient care. Duration is 6 years including 5 years of academic study and 1 year of mandatory internship in hospital settings. B.Pharm graduates can pursue Pharm.D Post Baccalaureate program with 3 years duration including internship.
For Master of Pharmacy (M.Pharm)
M.Pharm admission occurs through GPAT conducted by National Testing Agency or through university-level entrance examinations. Candidates must possess B.Pharm degree with minimum 55 percent aggregate marks. The program offers specializations in Pharmaceutics, Pharmacology, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmacognosy, Pharmaceutical Analysis, Clinical Pharmacy, and other branches. Duration is 2 years divided into four semesters with research project component.
Pharmacy Council of India Regulations
The Pharmacy Council of India regulates pharmacy education and profession in India under the Pharmacy Act 1948. All pharmacy institutions offering D.Pharm, B.Pharm, M.Pharm, and Pharm.D programs must obtain approval from PCI and affiliations from respective universities. The council prescribes minimum standards for pharmacy education including curriculum, infrastructure, faculty qualifications, and laboratory facilities.
